Our Beliefs

Message from the Founder

My inspiration for Empowering Young Minds (EYM) comes from lived experience. Having witnessed poverty, illness, and the devastation of war first-hand, I could not remain a bystander. I felt a duty to act—a duty to ensure that young people, especially the most disadvantaged, are given the dignity, equality, and opportunities they deserve.

At EYM, we believe every young person has untapped potential. With the right guidance, they can break free from limiting beliefs, build confidence, and step into a future filled with purpose and possibility. Our mission is to help them develop not only academic and employability skills but also resilience and emotional intelligence. This not only improves their mental health and well being but also enhances their ability to make sound decisions and form healthier relationships. Our research in Enfield confirmed that focusing on development and well being enhances focus, discipline, and adaptability, which in turn improves employability, career readiness, and academic outcomes.

For over 40 years as an educator in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and the UK, I have seen how empowerment changes lives. These initiatives inspire accountability, initiative, and leadership qualities. When young people are equipped with life skills, self-belief, and support, they are able to navigate challenges, transform their own futures, and contribute positively to their communities.

EYM is about more than programmes—it is about hope, growth, and transformation. We invest in the whole person, ensuring young adults are prepared to face life with confidence, resilience, and determination. Together, we can release the passion within and help young people write new stories of success.

Current Activities

After-School Maths and English Club

We run supplementary classes across South-East England, helping young adults strengthen their Maths and English skills in preparation for exams and broaden their future educational and career prospects and qualifications. Our aim is to expand these provisions while also offering workshops in music, performing arts, and creative arts to foster creativity and collaboration.

Mentoring and Confidence Building

Our mentoring programme provides guidance, encouragement, and a trusted ear to help young adults navigate challenges and uncover their strengths and potentials. Paired with confidence-building sessions, this support helps young people overcome self-doubt, resist peer pressure, and develop the resilience needed for leadership and the capacity to make positive choices decision-making.

Entrepreneurship Programme

Entrepreneurial programs for young adults empower youth with skills, confidence, and innovation, preparing them not only to launch successful ventures but also to navigate an increasingly competitive and dynamic UK workforce. We equip them with entrepreneurial skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, financial literacy, creativity, and leadership.
